FAQs

Q Is Two Brothers Moving licensed and insured?

Always make sure to verify this about the moving company you consider! And yes, Two Brothers Moving is fully licensed and insured.

Q Can I get a Certificate of Insurance for my building?

Yes, we can provide a COI after your reservation is made, at no charge.

Q Does Two Brothers Moving offer insurance for my items?

While we will make every attempt to transport your items with the utmost care, infrequently accidents do occur. Moving companies are not insurance companies so therefore we do not offer “insurance” in the legal sense but we do offer coverage options for your goods. What we provide to you is a form of protection to mitigate your risk and this is standard across the industry. These coverage options are provided in more detail on your contract.

Q Does Two Brothers Moving move pianos?

Yes, our moving teams are trained to move all kinds of pianos.

Q Does Two Brothers Moving provide packing services?

Yes, we provide packing services. Please give us a call to discuss options and pricing.

Q Does Two Brothers Moving offer disassembly and assembly services?

Yes and there is usually no additional charge for this. We will not assemble any item that we did not disassemble unless we feel it is safe. We can take apart simple items like bed frames; take legs off of tables, etc. We offer this service as a convenience to our customers but there are times that even the most simple of a disassembly/assembly task could be made challenging due to damaged hardware or furniture.

We won’t be responsible for excessive time, structural, or functional imperfections associated with any of these challenges. However, our staff will always communicate your options to you and will proceed with your approval.

Please reach out to us to get approval prior to your move if you require disassembly/assembly of anything that is complex or that requires a manual/instruction. We cannot disassemble or assemble cribs or bunk beds for liability reasons.

Q Does Two Brothers Moving offer storage options and will my belongings be safe in storage?

We do provide solutions for storage needs. We can handle the entire storage process or work with a dedicated storage facility of your choosing to easily facilitate a move into storage.

You will have options to place your items in climate controlled vs. non-climate controlled and the considerations between the two depends on your preference and inventory. We know the tricks of the trade pertaining to the care/storing of your belongings. For example, when putting items into storage—upholstered furniture can be shrink wrapped and left in a unit that is not climate controlled. Leather and wood should not be shrink wrapped if being placed in a non-climate controlled unit.

Q What areas will Two Brothers Moving service?

We service all counties in Connecticut (Fairfield, Hartford, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London, Tolland, Windham) and the Northeast.

Q What payment methods does Two Brothers Moving accept?

We know convenience is key, so therefore we accept almost every form of payment you can imagine. Check with your move coordinator to confirm the payment methods currently accepted. These payment options will also be provided to you at the time of your booking.

Q How does Two Brothers Moving structure their hourly rates?

Our hourly rates are intended to be simple and transparent. We round our hourly rates up to the nearest quarter hour or in other words—in 15 minute increments. This means if your job goes for 4 hours and 15 minutes—that is all that is logged. Your rates will be dependent on a variety of factors. Give us a call to discuss the details related to your move.

Q How far in advance should I book my move?

If you have specific time and date restrictions, always try to plan and schedule your move a month in advance. Give us a call to get started now.

More Detail: This answer also depends on the factors such as the housing market, season, as well as your flexibility. The summer months are typically the busiest time of year for the moving and transportation industry. During this time it is not uncommon for companies to be booked out several weeks in advance. If you must have a weekend date or a specific date then the best approach is to book your move as far in advance as you feel comfortable. If you have more flexibility with your dates, then at least two weeks in advance should suffice given the season. The first several days and the last several days of each month are typically the highest in demand. Leases and closings are typically set for the end of the month. If you have flexibility and time to prepare—opt for a mid-week move during the middle of the month—you will have more available dates to choose from.

Q How should I prep my appliances for my move?

We sometimes have to take doors off appliances and we ask that manuals be made available when possible. If you take measurements prior to your move, you can alert us ahead of time of the need for disassembly. You should defrost your refrigerator and/or freezer 24 hours in advance while leaving the doors open to ensure moisture is removed.

We ask that you prepare your washer and dryer prior to our arrival by disconnecting them. If you need our team to do this, please make us aware prior to your move as our teams are not liable when disconnecting appliances attached to gas and water lines. It is your responsibility to ensure gas lines and water lines to these items are turned off and water is completely removed from any washer machine.

Q Does Two Brothers Moving offer boxes and packing materials?

We have boxes you may purchase and also have packing materials. We always strive to offer our customers the most transparent and cost efficient move possible. With that said, we recommend that if you have time--you purchase your packing supplies/boxes from third-party locations such as UHaul, Lowes, or Home Depot as their prices are less and the quality is the same. Our teams will always arrive with a few standard boxes and bubble wrap on hand in the event you need some. We build our cost of acquisition into our prices—and thus our costs are higher than the vendors we listed above.

Q Can I pack using plastic bags?

We can move luggage or duffel bags but plastic bags can rip and break easily. Bags cannot be stacked the way boxes can be and therefore are not ideal for moving.

Q What size and type of boxes/bins should I use for my move?

This all depends on your inventory and preference towards boxes vs. bins. Both boxes and bins are customary on each move, although the versatility with box sizes make boxes the superior option. Just be sure the boxes you are using are moving grade boxes. Moving grade boxes can withstand the edge crush test and are intended for moves. Here is some more information on what size boxes to use and when:

Small - 1.5 Cubic Feet Boxes: Small household cartons are sometimes referred to as 'book boxes' because they are ideally suited to items which are relatively heavy but compact. However, small moving boxes are also perfectly suited for CDs, tools, small appliances, fragile, breakable and valuable items such as antiques, collectables and silverware.

Medium - 3.0 Cubic Feet Boxes: Ideal for items which are bulky but not too heavy. Examples include clothes, shoes, children's toys, purses, lamp bases and electronic equipment.

Large & Extra Large - 4.5 Cubic Feet and 6.0 Cubic Feet Boxes: These are suitable for very bulky but lightweight items. You can empty your linen cupboard into these as they will handle towels, blankets and pillowcases. Large boxes are also perfect for large stuffed toys and comforters.

Wardrobe Boxes: These are a really convenient way of packing and transporting clothes. Items on hangers can be moved straight on to the inbuilt rail while shoes, socks, underwear and sports equipment can be packed into an additional section of the box.

Dish Barrel & Dish Pack Inserts: Best for packing dishes and other fragile kitchen items.

Specialty Moving Boxes: There are a variety of specialized boxes for mirrors and artwork; flat screen TVs; wine and lamps.

Q Should I use packing paper or bubble wrap?

Both. Packing paper is cost effective and can provide a safe environment for your fragile ware that will be boxed. Bubble wrap is great for large glass shelves, mirrors, and artwork. Just remember to always place the bubble wrap around your item with the bubbles facing inward.

Q Is there anything that Two Brothers Moving cannot move?

We cannot move live plants, pots with dirt, perishable food (think fridge or freezer), glass bottles with liquid (think alcohol), and flammable items. (Please make us aware if you intend to have us move any prescription drugs, medical supplies, or money.) Here are additional items we are not allowed to move:

· Acids
· Fire extinguisher
· Nail polish remover
· Aerosols
· Fireworks
· Paint thinner
· Ammonia
· Gasoline
· Paints
· Ammunition
· Household batteries
· Pesticides
· Car batteries
· Kerosene
· Poisons
· Charcoal
· Lamp oil
· Pool chemicals
· Charcoal lighter fluid
· Liquid bleach
· Propane tanks
· Chemistry sets
· Loaded guns
· Reloading supplies
· Cleaning solvents
· Matches
· SCUBA tanks
· Darkroom chemicals
· Motor oil
· Sterno
· Fertilizer
· Nail polish
· Weed killer

Q Do I need to remove contents from my belongings?

Yes. We ask that for the safety and liability of our staff and your belongings that all contents be removed. Your items were not designed to be transported with contents inside and are safer to transport when empty.

Q I never moved before. How much is customary to tip each mover?

Our teams many times work long demanding days in difficult conditions that can exceed the standard 9-5. Gratuity is a matter of preference and typically should be evaluated based on the length and complexity of the job, as well as the overall satisfaction you have for your experience. Gratuity as a form of recognition for a job well done is customary and appreciated.

Q Can I go in the truck along with the movers?

No, this is not possible due to safety and insurance reasons.
