Atlas Van Lines

Atlas van Lines is comprised of a family of companies headquartered in Evansville, Indiana. Atlas provides comprehensive, global services for people and businesses that need to relocate. True to their vision, the packers and crew at Atlas Van Lines continue to handle customers’ belongings as if they are their own. More than 430 independent Atlas moving companies across the U.S. and Canada, plus 1,500 global partners in 17 countries, work in concert to bring reliable, stress-free service to customers every day.

In 1948, a group of 33 entrepreneurs in moving and storage formed an alliance. These entrepreneurs believed they could help one another build their businesses by better serving customers. They envisioned their own cooperative from coast to coast, doing business according to the golden rule. Taking the name “Atlas® Van Lines,” the group established headquarters in Chicago, Illinois. This group of independent Agents (commonly referred to around the halls of Atlas as moving companies, or simply local Atlas movers) have gone on build a global network of moving companies that help our customers go new places®.

Corporate Relocation Moving Services

You’ve taken the job offer and need to relocate. Now what? If your company has selected Atlas to handle your move for your job, you may already be informed about what to expect. Whatever your relocation allowance, you’ll be happier and less stressed if you’re prepared. If you’re in charge of your own relocation, you likely need a mover. We recommend you get estimates from reputable moving companies. If your move is considered “small”—an apartment, condo, townhouse, or 1-2 bedroom home—you should take a look at SimpliCity™. This unique program from Atlas is designed specifically for small, long-distance moves, including date-specific pickup and delivery…meaning there’s more control for you.

Military Moving Services

As the country’s second‐largest mover, Atlas brings approximately 2,500 Professional Van Operators (PVOs) and 3,700 trucks to serve U.S. military installations. Our military moving companies are dedicated to ensuring your domestic move is seamless, whether it’s a local relocation with your family or a solo move across the country. We also provide door‐to‐door service around the globe with Atlas® International.

Typically, service members move their household items in a personal or rented vehicle in a Personally Procured Move (PPM), formerly known as a Do-It-Yourself (DITY) move. The U.S. Armed Forces provides an incentive payment equal to 95% of the estimated cost to the government for PPM. When the move is completed, the service member provides receipts and paperwork to substantiate authorized expenses. The net financial profit is taxable and is reported on a separate W-2 Form.

If you choose a PPM, the government will not pack/move your goods or arrange your moving expenses. Through its PPM policy, the U.S. Armed Forces reimburse personnel who arrange their moves. Many military personnel finds that a PPM offers more control over the packing and transport processes. Our Atlas military movers are well versed in PPM guidelines. We can explain what is required for:

Protection: We’ll advise you of the valuation choices for coverage against loss or damage.

Storage: Atlas offers flexible options for secure storage if you may need it.

Reimbursement: We can assist with completing and filing the forms for reimbursement.

Service members can also be sure that Atlas makes their security and safety our highest priority through:

Satellite Tracking: Secure online access to shipment location 24/7.

Labor Certification: Background checks to verify the quality of Atlas service personnel.

Proactive Safety: “Zero tolerance” for substance abuse, enforced with random drug and alcohol screenings.

Refer to this article from The Spruce for more information: Preparing Major Appliances for Your Household Move.

Q Do I Need Moving Insurance to Cover My Move?

Atlas takes great care to prevent loss or damage to your goods. However, should something unforeseen happen, we recommend Full Value Protection. Q How can I Track My Shipment?

As an Atlas customer, you have access to Atlas® Customer Portal, a free online application where you can build your profile, track your shipment, make a payment, and access moving documents.

Q What Items cannot be Packed? Are Firearms Allowed?

You must notify Atlas before your move if your shipment contains firearms. All firearms must be unloaded, have legible serial numbers, and be packed in the presence of your Atlas Professional Van Operator. We recommend you consult Atlas' non-allowables guide as you begin packing for your move with Atlas.
